Beginner Mistakes

Often times a player thinks they know the game well enough to jump in and more often than not they make the basic player mistakes. We can help you avoid these mistakes by telling you what they are so you can avoid making them.

Playing too many hands is their first mistake. This means that they play certain hands that should not be played. The next mistake that is all too common is that players tend to play above their bankroll. You get caught up in the game and you see the pot getting bigger and by the end of the game even though your hand was not that great you bet big because you were hoping the other players were too. But a way to avoid that pitfall is easy in Texas Hold Em and that is because you are seeing 5 of the same cards as they are. The cards in their hands aren’t going to make their hand entirely they need help from the community cards. You can control the betting by paying attention to what is on the table.

Becoming emotional is also a common beginner mistake. Most people when they look at their pocket cards tend to make faces but you have to learn to control that. Players tend to also get emotional when the dealer lays out each community card. The key to Texas Hold Em and any other card game is to be a stone face, become emotionless.

Most beginners do not know or understand the pot odds at casinos. Before getting into a game read up on the odds of the pot or uses a pot odds calculator. Another common mistake that can cost you a lot of money is when the game begins; a newbie will consider the deck black and red and try to base their hands on the colors of the cards. But the game is not a colored deck game it is a suit game, Spades, Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs. This is what will help you win the game.

Make sure you follow the game etiquette; the game will go a lot smoother if you follow the rules and the etiquette. Try to avoid imitating how other players are playing the game. Your cards are your game; concentrate on how you play not how everyone else pays. Also try to avoid superstitions of the game because it will distract you from the game at hand and it may cost you the game because your focus is elsewhere.

Play smart, as much as you may want to push it to see if you can win be smart, don’t continue if you have nothing. Don’t keep betting because you want to see if you can win. If you really have a nothing hand then get out of the hand. Don’t throw away your money on a small percentage that you are going to win. Know when to stay in and know when to walk away.
